Upon installation of my Ramsey ATV Winch, I noticed that one of the Caution Statements reads: "Do Not Leave Winch Clutch Engaged When Not In Use!"
Okay, I have always thought you kept the winch "engaged" when not in use to prevent the winch from freespooling out and getting tangled, etc.
I'm thinking that the reason for this Caution Statement is to prevent accidental activation of the winch, which could cause injury or damage to the winch or people. Actually, my winch is always powered up and I have a rocker switch on the dash. I suppose my wife could inadvertently hit the rocker switch and cause damage to the winch by spooling it inward (maybe break the roller fairlead, etc).
I got a small bungee and secured my winch so I can keep it in the freespool mode to prevent this without having to worry about the winch unwinding.
Any other reasons for keeping the winch in "freespool" mode when not in use??
