Last year I mounted a hydraulic wich on my box blade and it works really well winching logs - except big logs are tough pulling on an upward slope. Does anyone have any pictures of a logging dolly? I was thinking about making one that would have a center pully which would hoist the front of the log up and then the tires would carry the weight of the log. I would believe that this would allow me to pull larger logs with my little TC33.

You could probably do something like that utilizing a dirt scoop by either winching the leading end of the log into the scoop or just slipping the scoop under the end of the log, securing, lifting the scoop just above ground and dragging. You can get a good (enough) scoop for $190.

Look up the thread on "Log Dragging" and you will see some other discussion (beginning in October '02).

In the northwest we call them logging arches. I used mobile home spindles and tubing the same size as the axle. At the spindles I welded 90s on and went upright 4' then 45 to the peak, hanging a pulley from the apex. By making onother "U" from the lower 90's with a short tongue for a hitch it made a great log skidder. One thing I did with mine, is to hinge the lower part so the top arch will lay down on the lower part. With a couple of hydraulic rams, it doubled as a hyd dump trailer. When I unpin the bed and lift it, I have a stiff arm that I slip in from the apex to the tongue to reinforce it.

Would you happen to have a picture of your logging arch? Sounds interesting. Thanks in advance.

I have been looking for some sites (found two) that show logging dollies or skidding pans. You may find more than you want to know about, but they are:

I have seen another one, but so far have not been able to find it. Thought I had it bookmarked, but can't find it there either.

Check out this one on Farmer Brown's site.

Changed to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.farmerbrownsplowshop.bigstep.com/generic53.html;$sessionid$RC5CJDAAAAYGVTZENUFHBMWPERWRJPX0>link</A> by MikePA to reduce post width.

Although Brown normally logs with horses, this would easily hitch to a tractor.
