Just a few days ago we had the entire island without power due to winds. Now it looks like Whidbey Island is gonna get hit again starting tonight. I sure hope we don't lose power again. I hate running the generator. I am looking at buying a bunch of lead acid batteries for a good deal and a couple inverters just so I can keep a few things going at night, like my CPAP machine. My son told me that his landlord has a bunch of deep cycle batteries in good shape that he may be interested in selling. I will still need to fire up the generator after power has been out long enough to run the fridge and freezers. Man, am I reliant on electricity.

I hear you etpm. I am 100% electric here. However - we seldom get winds over 25mph.

Last power outage - some knothead on a construction site. Backed a large front end loader into a power pole and broke it clean off. Power was out for three hours.

Sorry about the wind. If you have just a few small items to run, I would consider 12V power directly, e.g. You might look if there is a 12V adapter for your CPAP, and use a directly connected battery. Much more electrically efficient, and you can have a more than one battery. Of course there is always buying a UPS, but it all depends on what you want to keep powered.

All the best,

Peter

WA can have some powerful weather events… the worse for me was 9 days in January after 30 days of rain and then the gale force started made roads impassable and power out everywhere due to a blanket of fallen trees.

Having a wood stove and generator and gas grill… especially with teens for the overnight lows.

After the big California quake the power was out 6 or 7 days but only affected my refrigerator and lights as hot water, gravity central furnace, stove all natural gas and never missed a beat and water remained on.
