I went a tire shop today to get the LT 235 75 15 in a michelin ice latitude. The most knowledgeable guy told me there is no way those tires or any other winter tire in a 15 inch is going to take that load?

He said I must move in to a 16 inch and 10 ply.

Anyone have any suggestions what to do?

Thanks Mike

the weight of the toolcat 8000 lbs

8000#...Really?..... Last year I used LT235/75-15's and I put them back on for this coming year just yesterday. I'm carrying about 700# of ballast and a 800# blower and I've not had problems. The single max loading for these 6-ply tires I'm using is 2000# apiece.

Having said that, if I were to do it all over again I would go to LT225/75-16 (Load Range E/10-ply) tires just for added margin. I would purchase 16" trailer wheels (6 on 5.5" bolt pattern...one of the most common) to save some $$$. Go to the trailer parts store...not necessarily the tire dealer for those. I used white modular trailer wheels for my 15" LT tires and they work super.

This link:
Tire Tech Information - Diameter Comparison of Light Truck Tire Sizes
will take you to TireRack's tire dimension page. There aren't too many size options for 16" tires that would seem to be Ok with the Toolcat height-wise; however, LT225/75-16/E's are very common and that's what I'd try if I did it over. Maybe next year I will depending on this year's performance.

Thanks alot.

well 8000 with blade and balast.
Yes I am thinking of going with 235 85 16 (nokian lt )_but I am trying to find out if they will fit and how they will affect the steering.

Thanks Mike

The subject of tires comes up often on these forums. It'd be helpful if you could post your results with whatever tire you end up with.

That's interesting....

I have been running the 235 75 15's for what will be my fourth season with no problems. Does the B series weigh less than the other series?

I have 800 lbs of ballast, and a 1000 lb Blower on my TC's.

New new 5600 weighs 5,500 lbs dry and empty. Load range E would give you stiffer sidewalls and little more puncture resistance. With no ballast, me, fuel, and the blower (72", SB200) I estimate my TC to run at about 6,760 lbs.

How tall are the 235 75 15's when mounted and aired up? I'd like a set at 29 or even 30 inches if it is possible. I went with the 27 inch bobcat tires cuase my dealer said the bucket wouldn't lay flat with the boom down. But for snow I don't care because it will have a blade, pusher or blower on it.
My 5610 weighs 7040# with ballast(750#) 66" bucket and an 8 foot protech compact snow pusher chained on.

It really depends on the manufacturer of the tire. Nominally 235/75x15's should be 28.9" at proper inflation (for the vehicle) but some makes will be lower or taller.
