This year I gained my winter weight way to early. I am naturally a skinny guy so gaining 8 lbs in the winter just tightens the jeans. However this year I gained mine way too early. They say gaining the winter weight is a northern thing. Am I alone here?

Just wait til you pack on the Thanksgiving and Christmas Weight. You'll be shopping for Mom jeans.

I probably work harder in the winter with firewood than I do the rest of the year.

A lot easier to work when it's not so HOT! Just firewood is miserible stuff to handle wet!

Over time you may find your winter weight stays with you through the summer then when winter comes you put on additional winter weight. (My experience.) I cut back my carbohydrates and reduced portion sizes (I can't eat like a teenager any more.) The result over time was pleasing. The old and the new winter weight slowly went away but I must be constantly observant what and how much I eat.

Some people have more self control than others, but some people (like me) just really like food (and drink). Easy not to eat so much when you don't care that much about how, what you eat tastes. I often don't eat until I can decide on or find something I really look forward to eating. And then I eat LOTS!

I never could understand people worrying about their weight until I was the one who is carrying too much.
I used to put on 20 lbs every summer but didn't worry much because the snowshoeing took it off every winter. That hasn't happened in the last 20 years though so I've been carrying about 40 lbs extra.
With another season coming up and remembering how hard deep snow is on my knees I've been paying more attention to what I eat; and have dropped about 10 pounds in the last couple of months.

When I clicked on the thread though, I thought that it was going to be about the best way to add ballast to your car or truck; and I was going to suggest inner tubes filled with sand.

I wonder if they can use northern middle aged men's winter weight gain as a winter weather predictor. Like the bands on the wooly bear caterpillars? Maybe I am on to something, a grant?!, for a study?
