many different options available,
magnetic stick on type, plumb a hose heater into lower radiator hose, dipstick heater (beware of burning the oil), heat pads that epoxy onto the bottom of the oil pan, and the list goes on. Check at your local auto parts store and explain what you are trying to do and ask them what options they have.
Cold in WI too!

The absolute most importatnt thing to do is make sure that antifreeze/water ratio is correct for the temps your tractor will experience!!!!

I was just asking the question regarding block heaters in another thread. You can see it here in this thread Block Heaters. Len Sheaffer has the Yanmar block heaters which insert into the water jacket. They work by heating the coolant with an electric coil in the coolant jacket of the engine. These are for Yanmar engines with the threaded plugs on the side of the engine. My YM1301D has three threaded plugs on the right (exhaust) side of the engine. Now I just have to see if I can break one of the plugs loose.

I have checked antifreeze, filled diesel tank, and put a battery tender on the unit. I am looking to get an e copy of manuals for my Yanmar 1820d to see what else to do.
Any recommendations?

Welcome to the site:welcome: I really don't do anything special. Check antifreeze . Other than that, nothing. I use mine in the winter,Just not as much as spring / summer

Hello Gbirky, I am a heavy duty truck technician full time. A heated element that goes inside the block is the best option. It heats near the cylinder walls, the engine head itself, and other important parts that lead to faster starts.

To removed the pipe plug and install the block heater is fairly easy! It can be done fairly cheap too. Easier than a freeze plug mount. It should be plugged in for 4 hours prior to starting.

Winter fuel is a must! If it cannot be purchased in your area(as it cannot be here) you can add additive to help prevent wax build up in filters. Good luck
