Alrighty then. I have two networks setup with the exact same problem. Therefor I presume there is an answer out there. Lets see if anyone here has an answer.

The setup.

System A) Internet to Broadband modem. Modem to Computer, computer to wireless hub. Wireless hub to multiple computers. Everything is running XP pro.

System B) same as A except instead of Broadband it runs off of ISDN.

So I can setup up the networks fine and you can browse from one computer to the next without anyproblems. In both cases though none of the clients can see the internet when using a wireless router (one router is Linksys and one is Netgear). Now I pull the router and put an old fashioned wired hub in there and the ICS protocol appears inthe Network screen and everything is okay.

What is up with the wireless router?

Our system at church goes from the DSL cable to the modem to the router/wireless transmitter. One computer is hard cabled to the router, the rest are hooked up via wireless. No problems sharing the internet or network resources.

My home system:

Bi-Directional satellite internet connection to router, router cabled to the WiFi base station. All the computers that use the wireless hub are connected wirelessly, there is no physical connection between any computer and the WiFi base station. There is no physical connection between any computer and the satellite router. Printers are connected in various ways. Printer #1, USB cable directly to WiFi base station. Printer #2, USB cable to WiFi repeater antenna. Printer #3, built in WiFi, no physcial connection. Printer #4, USB cable to WiFi base station or directly to computer, depending on how I am using it (it is a battery operated portable photo printer).

I'm not quite sure how the office system is set up. I don't recall if the T1 line goes into our AS/400 then to a router, or if it is the other way around. But from there the broadband goes to my office via ethernet, where it is plugged into a WiFi base station. No computer or printer is plugged into the WiFi base station.

I don't know if that helps you or not.

I am not a expert. But I do have a Linksys Wireless router. Modem is wired to wireless router. Wireless router to desktop. MY Linksys has a port just for the modem called Internet.
My router is a WRT54G.
Hope this helps.

Isn't ICS Internet Connection Sharing brodcast off the first PC?

The easyist way to do it... modem into router/switch WAN port, pc's into router/switch. I don't use DHCP and set the gateway on the pc's to the router/switch IP.

Don't know about Bill's inet sharing....never used it....so I can't help there but if you do as I said above and the router/switch has basic firewalling all pc's can benefit from hardware firewalling which is always a good thing. I don't like Bill's firewall as it's too cookie cutterish. If I use the router I can open up what I want like I run PC Anywhere through it to access work but close down everthing else.

Good luck

Regards,
Kevin

Do you have ICS turned on, do you have routing on the gateway machine turned on. Do you have a firewall running to prevent the routing? My first suggestion is dump the computer in the middle and get a good wireless router. They are so dirt cheap its not worth tieing up a machine.

In the wireless routers turn off the gateway function and allow them to be routers. In my Linksys DSL Router (no wireless in this unit) it is under "Advanced" then the "Dynamic Routing" tabs.

v8Dave,

You are the Grand Prize winner.

Your prize is "Thanks".

That took care of the issues.....
This computer stuff is moving faster than the time I care to invest, but I suppose I really ought to catch up with it one of these days....

Thanks again...

No expert, but I believe you need a router and not a hub. If you use a hub, then you will need one machine to be the connection to the internet and must remain on at all times for the other machines to gain access to the net.

The modem should connect to your router -- and the router should be setup your IP address from your cable company -- all client machines will then run on your internal network (e.g. 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.105)

That's how I have mine setup. I don't have wireless, but I would think they would work the same way.
