Hey guy's wiring up my brake control to my 06 Chev. Truck is there a location to hook up wire for brake's that will not be affected by 4 way flasher operation? On my old Chev [95] when using 4 ways brake's would pluse with flashers real unhandy going up a hill with flasher's on. Thank's for your input

You had something hooked up wrong on your old truck. The flashers and the brake lights are two separate bulbs or circuits to a dual filament bulb. You should have no problems with the new truck.

Look in your owners manual, GM generally talks of trailer wireing.
In my '02 Jimmy the factory a harness was in place ready to connect at back and needing a fuse and one wire to be connected under the hood for a brake controller.

My 03 Ford 150 has a pigtail or harness of some sort stored in the glovebox to be used for hooking up a controller. Not saying it stays in the glovebox, you use it to plug in under the dash. I think GM's have the same thingy.

Does an 06 Chevy not have a wiring pigtail for brake controller?

All you need to do is buy the pigtail from GM dealer or any half decent parts store and it plugs in under the dash. The trailer lights, flashers, turn signals all run off of completely different circuits than the truck ones.

Thanks guy's,maybe I should tell you my truck is factory wired with a seven way plug already at the rear, next to the factory hitch. It all works less the wire for trailer brakes. If I install my old brake controller I need to locate a wire or harness if their is one for the controller to run brake input back to seven way plug I think.I think I need to run this wire back but I am not sure.I will double check at the plug, maybe that wire is run back it just needs to be connected to a controller. If so where is this wire located under dash?or somewhere else that is my question.

OK, now that we have the whole story here it goes. Your truck has a plug located under the dash, drivers side, that connects your aftermarket brake controller to the 7 pin plug at the rear. No need to run wires. All you need to do is go to your nearest RV dealer, UHAUL, or good parts store like AutoZone and get the $10 pigtail.

You will also need to put a large fuse in the proper spot in the fuse pannel to charge your trailers brake-away battery. You can get this fuse anywhere but the cheapest I have found them is at the dealer, about a $1.50 Its either a 30 or 40 amp fuse depending on the year and usually located in the fuse box under the hood in the engine compartment. Check your owners manual. All in all this should take less than 15 minutes to hook up.

Glad you got it done. Its a very easy job on all new trucks, foreign or domestic.

Just make sure you put in the big 30 or 40 amp fuse to charge the trailers batter if equipped. If there is no battery on the trailer you do not need it but I recommend getting it and installing it so you will be equipped to tow any trailer.
