Wisconsin VH4D Not Charging

Positive ground setup on a New Holland L425. The alternator light is dim at idle and bright red at higher RPMs. I believe it to be late 70's or early 80's machine. It does not have an alternator, so I am assuming it is a stator variant of this engine. I didn't see the ac/dc diode upon initial inspection.

Not sure where to start on this problem. Appreciate any help/suggestions.

Pitt Auto Electric has a vast library of Wisconsin literature, as well as parts for them. I'd suggest downloading the VH4D manual and checking out the alternator troubleshooting section.
