I don't know of any website but any woman's business organization in your area should be able to give you the information you need. Also your local chamber of commerce could help.

The SBA has all sorts of forms for leaning about starting a business, especially for minorities, immigrants and women. Unfortunately, I didn't qualify for any of them, so I'll just have to do it on my own.

Just FYI w/m owner certification allows access to prime gov't contracts with little or no competitive bidding called set asides.

Also easy access as a subcontractor to much larger prime contractor work with again X % set asides.

Probably need the friendly company lawyer to transfer the assets & control.

Be sure your employer understands the changes. It's more than paperwork, don't want to see the boss doing the perp shuffle in chains on the 6 PM news.

It should be a legit change.. owner is retireing, and wants younger wife to take over. Corporate filing report will be amended making her the pres.. etc.. she will call the shots, hire/fire, and do all the bank signing and direct the co.. that looks like what most of the requirments seem to be looking at.

Chris,

I do a lot of work for government contracts, military, mass transit where woman owned has a slight advantage but not to the extent it did years ago. In 99% of cases woman owned is not considered minority or as usually referred "Certification of Disadvantaged-Owned Business".

Woman-Owned in many cases is self certifying. Company must be at least 51% owned by a woman or women who are involved in the day to day operation of the company. If the net worth of the woman is very low ( I don't recall the exact amount but I think it is $750,000.00) it is possible to be certified as a DBE ( Disadvantaged Business Entity). There are organizations that will certify you as woman owned if required and the can be found easily on google.

DBE info can be found at SBA - Could Not Set Session Cookies

and http://search.sba.gov/query.html

I can get more info if you need.

I work for a business that has been womaned owned for the last 15-20 years. We only have one entity that classifies us as a DBE and once that expires...no more.
