looking for 1st tractor
Hi, I was wondering if anyone can give me first hand experience type of advice on the Massey Ferguson GC1705? I have been looking at compact , and subcompact tractors for a while now. I have 4 acres of property I want to build on soon. It has a good bit of slope on most of it. I want a tractor that I can pull a small bush hog through some overgrown briars , and a little Kudzu. I also want to be able to move some brush and a few rocks with. I don't really need to do any "grading" with the tractor , but I would like to be able to pull a box scrape to level some humps. Maybe pull some pine logs up the hill , and do a little work around the pond also. My goal is to be able to use it as a mower down the road , but have the extra use with the loader as needed. My biggest question is how well this tractor would do pulling implements. I have looked at several brands including Kubota, Kioti, LS, TYM,and of course Deere. I have also looked at larger tractors . I think the subcompacts would be better for the mowing use later , and much easier to trailer. I really like most of the brands I mentioned , and found quite a deal on a new GC1705 with loader. ($10,900) The other brands were very similar in specifications , but most were much more exspensive. I really am interested in finding out what some of you owners think of the GC1705. I appreciate it.

I have the older version, a GC2400, and I have no problems with it, lifts what I need with the FEL, mows unbeleiveable and pulls what I have put behind it. Find it to have lots of leg room, easy to get on and off hydraulic are good even at idle.

Thanks , Bakerg. I test drove one recently , and went again on Saturday. I really like it. I went ahead and filled out the credit ap for it. Was hoping to get more feedback , but did not want to wait so long that the rebates expire.

I also have a GC 2400 and hands down have found it be superior to many of the other brands. It can push, pull, lift and anything else you'd like it to do within reason. I searched and searched and found this to be the best, comfortable, and ease to get in and out of. I use it for mowing ( with a DR vac attached-leaf season has never been easier....), a snowblower, grader blade, york rake, forks and other attachments all with ease. The only negative I have about it, is the tail lights. Even though they have guards, they can still snap, so just beware. A good investment for the right money.

The Evolution of the GC SubCompacts:

22.5HP Class: GC2300 became the GC2400 which became the GC1705
25HP Class: Entered this market with the GC2600 at same time as GC2400 now is the GC1715

Been very good units and offer some great Hydraulic Performance. One thing on loader is you get dual Cylinders and Chrome Plated Shafts versus some of the others.

My tractor was delivered this morning. I am suprised at how much power it actually has. The loader is very responsive. I have already pu just about 2 hours on it. I could not be more happy!!!!! thanks for the info , and all the advice I have found on this site. Now I just need to find a good 4 ft bush hog , and I will be set!

For what it's worth, I bought a 4' Taylor Pittsburgh brush cutter with my recent purchase of the GC 1705L and I'm finding it to be a better brush cutter than the previous Bush Hog brand I owned a few years ago. I got a "stump jumper" and that paid off about the second time I used it as I encountered a lowish cut stump that I did not see before I ran over it with the brush cutter. I'm sure there are other brands that are good too, just sharing my experience so far with Taylor Pittsburgh equipment. I like it and the price was fair. I paid $995 for mine.
