I recently bought an older B5200. I can get it to crank by jumping the solenoid but that's as far as it goes. Even with a quick shot of starting fluid.(I know, bad for diesels).
Any ideas?
Also how do you remove the sheet metal holding the instrument cluster? I have removed all of the bolts and it seems that the hand throttle is the only thing holding me from removing it. I am stumped of how to disconnect it.

Begin by cleaning the air filter. Starting fluid is not good but if it won't even try with that you could simply be lacking air. If you have air, fuel, and compression it should go.

If you have to jump the solenoid on the starter and no start while cranking.... locate and fix the electrical problem before you tear the dash apart.

Yes! absolutely. [ Maybe the OP has some other reason to want into the dash (?) ] Most likely the ground cable to the frame and battery connections, etc. will get it cranking without jumping the solenoid. Do the glow plugs work ? Have you checked to see if the injectors are squirting? How old is old ? Roadworthy is right if you have the fuel, air and compression it can be started. If it is TOO old and not been run in ages I'd start being concerned about compression. To heck with ether/starting fluid.

Fuel shut off solenoid? My old L 2850 has a bad one, I pull it in and out a few times always opens it why I haven't replaced it yet.

On my Kubotas a roll pin holds the throttle and shuttle shift shafts in the collar. If you get the roll pin out you still have to deal with corrosion where the shaft goes in the collar if it's older it's probably corroded together pretty bad so you'll need to carefully use heat, or that's what I did. Pictures are worth a thousand words for keyboard commando mechanical diagnostics If this is what your problem is.
Good luck.

If it shuts off with the key, u have a shut down solenoid ..
So u have to energize it before it will start..
U can either take it off or run a positive wire to it..
Good luck
