Hi Everyone!

I'm the proud new owner of a MX5100 HST. I will need to get a wood chipper and am looking for recommendations on brand and type. I will be using it a lot since I have 107 acres of mountain property and have a lot of trees that will need to be cleaned up.

Thanks,
Ron

I have a Wallenstein BX42 and have been really happy with it. It seems to be well built and chews through the stuff I chip without slowing down on my 30 horse B3030. Anything too big to fit in it is firewood for me so the four inch size works, but they have a number of larger size machines as well. Sometimes I do wish I had the BX62 (the "six inch" version) just to fit the crooked stuff in easier. I wondered about the manual versus hyrdaulic feed when I bought it, but the manual feed works just as fast as I can grab another stick to shove into it and works just fine for me, and is a much simpler machine.

We have a Salsco 627XT chipper - 6" with hyd. Feed used behind a Kubota L4310.

Made in CT. Works fine.

My dealer sells the Bearcat 5" and is asking $3299 for it. It's a bit more than I was planning to spend. Surfing the web I came accross the Liberty wood chipper. It's $1000 less than the Bearcat, but I'm not sure if it's a good chipper. Has anyone had any experience with one of these?

Thanks,
Ron

Disregard my last post above. I just found a long and interesting thread on the Liberty chipper on TBN and am going to avoid it like the plague. Looks like I'll go with my dealer's Bearcat.

Have thew pre Echo ownership version of the SC5540B, the 73554 PTO version.

Chips good, get a small chirp out of the belt on longer pieces in the 3-4 inch range. The blower and adjustable chute make it nice to be able to aim the chips back in to the brush or someplace else. One bolt to loosen and unit hinges open for easy access to knives and hammers. You can select chip size with a easy to move handle. Power it using old Massey MF35 so 30 plus horsepower is good to have if you chip bigger stuff.

Found a place that is alot cheaper than Bearcat for knives also

Thanks David. I bookmarked that web site.

The dealer came down to $2995 on the 5" Bearcat chipper/shredder, so I bought it. Unfortunately, while driving it home in the back of my truck one of the tie-down straps broke while stopping and it fell forward taking out my rear windo, a power slider :( So add and additional $945 to the cost of the Bearcat

the liberty also known as, I think KPX-6 & 8 sounds good, but some on other sites say they have many problems and very poor support, some times not even returning calls or e-mails. need to do more research.
