Wood splitting, what do you do with your slag?

I us mine for kindling, shoot I save everything, even the wedges from falling trees. They burn good. Also cut tops up to the small limbs. I hate wasting anything that will burn in the furnace.!LUTT

I used to haul my tree lengths to my house to process, now I do it all in the woods and haul back wood ready to stack! Leave the mess in the woods( unless you have grapple loads delivered)

I do the same, cutting limbs down to about 1" in diameter up as firewood. I use those to start the fire. As a side benefit, what you end up leaving in the woods then is smaller and decays faster.

Having an outdoor wood stove, I could pitchfork the slag into the fire box. I just need to figure out an efficient way to pick it up and get it from the cutting yard to the stove. Maybe a steel bin of some sort that I can fill during cutting and then shuttle up to the stove, once a season. Shame to waste the heat potential. Right now all I do is rake it into the loader bucket and dump it into the woods. Great filler and mulch, but like I said, It has labor content and I hate to waste it.

Gotta look for some sort of a large bin or tote.

One of these days i would like to get a chipper and mike my own mulch. I purchase about six yards every year for the house and burn a bunch of the small slag and branches at the Farm that i could use.
