I would for sure put in wood, grape vines catch a lot of wind and I would be afraid of metal posts bending.

You can put in metal posts with a t-post pounder and they go in nice and easy. Wood posts require an auger or hydraulic post pounder. You can purchase the metal posts in whatever length you need. I'd go with the metal for ease of installation.

I don't know much about raising grapes, but thus is the way that I fence in my few cattle. I used utility posts for the corner posts, and spaced out my metal t-posts. For every wooden post on the line, I put in 3 t-posts in between. Best wishes.

How long are the rows??
How are you going to harvest the grapes......by hand or machine?? machines knock steel posts around but they also break wooden ones
What equipment do you have to put the posts in??
The local price of the steel and wooden posts?? With a mobile generator, a breakers hammer and a picket driver to fit it, 100's of steel poles can be done in a day
and why of course put the end poles in first?? with a post knocker for wooden poles that sits directly behind the middle of the 3ph its better to put the line poles in first.
I have done both metal and wooden installs I find the best is a hybrid mix....1 wooden pole then 2 steel poles then wooden pole etc with 3 vines in each panel, make sure the first pole in from the end strainer is wooden.

There are a few commercial grape growers on TBN I am sure you will find other whose experience differs from mine
