I installed a Brunco 150 woodburning furnace and a 18' Metalbestos stack early last fall. What a difference in the electric bill. I heat about 2,600 sq. feet between my basement and main floor. I heat solely with electricity in the past and our average monthly bill used to be around $325 per month, with the woodburner, the electric bill has been a steady $120 each month this winter. I got the wood burner for free, it was my dad's and he got free gas on his farm, the chimney cost me $1,600, so I figure the woodburner will have payed for the chimney in another year. What does your electric run in your part of the country?

Good Mornin MDM,
At my little Vt home which we are only at a few days per month its usually $30 to $40. At my Ct home it usually runs between $150 up to $250 . Its a bit more expensive in the winter because we have electric heat also and even though I have a wood stove in the cellar, the electric will kick on at times durring the cold weather ! :(

I wouldnt want to venture a guess of what it would be without burnin the wood ! ;)

I have coop electric power and an all-electric house. We have two refrigerators and a chest freezer in the garage. We also have our own water well pump and an electric aerator (runs continuously) and pump on our septic system. The biggest users of electric power are the water heater and a clothes dryer. Our heating and cooling is a York heat pump. My electric bill for my 2000 sq ft house varies from $150 in the spring and fall to around $275 at the summer peak and $325 at the winter peak. In winter, I also keep enough heat in a 24' x 24' cabin such that the pipes don't freeze (around 45 F).

Our power is about 10 cents per KWH.

The average power bill per month since we built the house is around $120. The house is about 2500 sf but it has 10 foot tall ceilings and large windows. The bill goes up in the summer for the AC. We have always heated the house with the wood stove since day one......

Until this month. We ran out of fire wood. Work has been out of control since last summer. I cut down some dead trees that I marked last summer/fall before the leaves fell off the live trees. I finally cut down 3-4 of the trees a few weeks back. Got another 3-4 to do.

We have enough wood for 1-2 weeks of burning but I'm holding that back in case we have a power outage.

Its going to be interesting to see what are heating bill is for the next few months.

Later,
Da
