I'm trying to live trap a woodchuck that has taken a liking to burrowing under my bay window. Area is too suburban to use firearms. Any idea which baits work best? Peanut butter has not done the trick, unless they just don't like crunchy!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Boiled sweetcorn ears will get him for you. If that fails just sit by the hole with a pellet rifle for 20 minutes and youll have him.

Maybe a smoke bomb might bring him, than fill in the hole.

They make bombs to kill woodchucks and I have used them to get the ones too smart to stay standing when they see me. You light the fuse and bury the hole. Make sure you bury the other end of the hole also if there is one and afterwards you do not have a woodchuck problem. Plus when the hole is filled in other woodchucks don't make it their home. I have never tried live traps for woodchucks and know people who have with out much luck, bombs are the way to go. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the advice. I have some smoke bombs, but since this is under the bay window of my house and next to the natural gas line, I'm not anxious to use the smoke bomb. Could be a replay of a Caddy Shack scene.

When you light the bomb you fill the hole so the smoke doesn't escape the hole. You also do not have to worry about the line since it is just a smoke bomb and not a grenade. I have used them and if you fill the hole right you will not see any smoke come out, if you do just add more dirt to the hole because it isn't filled good enough. Hope it works.

OK

What is a woodchuck????

Now I have heard the old "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

But doesn't answer my question?

Cheers

Kind of cute little bugger.

What size are they? Looks a bit like a rat?

What damage do they do around/under houses etc??

Cheers

Neil,

I think that was a picture of a young one. They get big, about the size of a large, fat cat. They dig large holes/tunnels and can really damage a field/lawn and damage crops. Bad things also happen when horses step into one of the holes. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif
