Our aged aluminum storm doors are finally giving up the ghost. (My wife says this happened a long time ago) and we want to replace them with wooden storm doors. The only place I have found on the Internet thus far is Vintage Woodworks. Do any of you TBNers know of any other sources?

Have a local wood worker build them for you?

Mike, we've got a wooden screen door on our house that came from Lowes/Menards some time ago. We added some gingerbread to it also. You could probably add glass panels for a storm door pretty easily, I think that's what Vintage Woodworks does. A bit of weatherstrip from Lowes/Menards and you're all set /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mike --

There are many, many on-line stores for wooden screen and entry doors. Following are only a few that may sell these types of doors taht you're looking for as well as other architectural woodwork and related trim. There are about four times as many that don't have their own websites but sell through direct mail order. I'd suggest you look in your local Borders or Barnes and Noble and look on their magazine racks for something called the Old-House Journal Restoration Directory -- The National Catalog of Suppliers. This Directory is a compendium of all the suppliers you'll ever need.

BTW, I've looked into these myself. Have wanted to buy mail order or on-line but the shipping rates are a killer. Because of the size of the door, many of these companies can't ship UPS, so they are shipped through freight handlers. These guys are very expensive.

Hope all this helps.

I bought 3 oak storm/screen doors from Coppa Wordworking in San Francisco. I had looked though a number of suppliers on-line and off and if I liked the style the choice of wood (or thickness) didn't work for me - till I found these folks. We like them a lot though I bought different hinges (have to admit the ones they sent stink). We also purchase the french door handles (brass round know with lever indside) as the stock door opener they supply is the same thing you would have on an aluminum door. Yeah, shipping was expensive - by truck from California to new Hampshire - but the results were well worth it.

Hi Mike, I have dealt with Cumberland Woodcrafters before. I noticed that you are from Southern Pa, and they are from Carlisle,Pa. If you have ever been on Rte 81 near Carlisle, you can see their place from the interstate. I included a picture of the door, that we bought for our house. They are very beautiful. Good Luck. Kent

Kent - Thanks for the info on Cumberland Woodcrafters! That'll be an easy drive from our place.

Andy - Thanks for the info on Coppa. The doors seem reasonably priced. What was the shipping like?

My wife also checked Home Depot today. Said she found some nice wooden, as well as metal, doors.

Kent --

Does Cumberland Woodcrafters operate a retail shop off I-81 or is it just their factory you see from the Interstate? I thought they were strictly on-line and mail order.

The Factory, and showroom are at the same place. We ordered our Doors from them, and picked them up to save on shipping. We saved quite a bit of money for that 1 1/2 drive. The shipping costs are quite salty. Their showroom isn't very big, but at least you can see what you are buying. They make some great stuff down there. Kent

I can't find the exact amount but I thinkk it was about $125.00, by truck. Though I 'd expect it to be a bit less for you, price increases/fuel surcharges may cancel the difference.
