I finally got around to building a shed for my sawmill. I built it close to the woods, so it will be convenient for milling my own trees, but I'll have to haul it back to the house for other jobs. In the fall I'll complete the shed by framing in the north wall and enclosing an 8x8 tool shed.

Nice shed. I have to do the same for my mill. One question, I assume you have the mill in the shed backwards in the pic, since the logs go on from the walled side. Are you going to build a wood ramp for loading logs. Sorry that's two questions.

I thought about using the mill in the shed, but realized that it would have to be much larger in order to get the logs in place, so I just intend to shelter the mill in the shed and haul it out when I want to use it. I don't like sawing in the rain anyway, so I don't think I'll miss being able to saw under shelter.

Right now I use my tractor (JD 3320) with pallet forks to load logs onto the mill. It works pretty well for the number of trees that I'll be milling. Most of my paid work is done on the road, so a ramp at home wouldn't help.

Ok, I was thinking the ramp would be needed if you were to saw in the shed.

Very nice indeed. With health and time against me and no desire to do custom sawing I may just be enjoying you guys talk sawing. :) I have been around mills all of my life and know they are very hard work getting the logs up and then off bearing after the sawing. May get a couple hundred dollar set up for the chainsaw so I can check sawing lumber off my bucket list. :D

Well GH, if you're ever in Ontario, you are welcome to come and play anytime. I have 200 acres, mostly hardwood, red oak and maple as well as some white cedar in the lower wetter areas.

Thanks for the offer. At least the entire family last year got passports when the kids went on a home building project in MX so I can leave the country at will and return as well. :)
As a kid we cut our own logs and hauled them to a near by low tech mill for our building projects. In fact we never completely built anything with lumber from the building supply houses. A little bark showing from time to time does not hurt an oak 2x4 from our experience.

Funny how a thread subject pops up then you see the item locally.

In a local craigslist type service near Paducah, KY a WOODMIZER LT40 PORTABLE SAWMILL popped up for sale today. While interested it is beyond my needs at this time. While asking $13,900 OBO I would hate to lay down a stack of 100 $100 bills unless I wanted the mill. :) It states:

Wood mizer sawmill in great condition, has 230 hours on it, hours are original. Everything worked perfect when used last. This model has the hydraulics with log loader and log turner. This mill will cut up to a 36" diameter log. We have everything you need to start sawing; extra sharpened blades, manuals, etc. which will go with the mill. $13,900 OBO. Call 270-559-7218.

This site requires to drill down to see a specific ad so one just goes to Ad Catagories at the top then from the drop down select Recent Ads and you will see a couple hundred or more today or you can use the site's search engine.

While I do not know mills I do know machines in general and had tool and die background long ago I would look at if anyone far away was interested since it is only 50 miles from me. It would be my guess if it was pulled very far on its own tires I would want new ones if they have many years on them.

Nice home for the mill. What model Woodmizer is that one? I have read the Woodmizer literature for years and dreamed of having one. Almost pulled the trigger a few years ago but just could never justify the expenditure. It would have been a fun toy though.
