Wondering if anyone has one of these. Looking at one for use around my many trees. Also wondering if 50HP (MX5000, Ford 4000) is enough to drive one.

CV drive is an option. What are the advantages of this?
Thanks.

Is it 50 engine HP or 50 pto HP?
I'd get the CV driveline if you'll be doing lots of tight turns. Take a look at Landpride & Bush Hog, too. The Land Pride "Commander" series is a nice batwing mower. I like the smooth-top mower deck. Slows down the rusting process because it sheds water.

CV stands for constant velocity. Very important on a pull type rotary with 1000 pto. Less critical for 540 pto but I would still get the CV on 540.

Myself, I would be a little concerned with the resale of that mower. It is basically a batwing, minus a wing. I would suspect they cost as much or more than a batwing. Those mowers are mainly for road side mowing.

I just bought a used pull type JD 10' hx mower and even those are not mainstream but not near as $$ compared to that woods.

The MX5000 is 44 PTO HP. The Ford is 48 at the PTO AFAIK. In real heavy stuff I'd have to go slow or take a shallower bite. I'm marginal on power. I've heard 5HP per ft. is the rule and that's probably PTO HP. Worst case is I'd have to trade up to an M6040 or thereabouts; something I might be able to justify.

If it were going to stay on one property, a straight 10' pull type would make sense. But I don't like the idea of moving a straight 10 footer down the road for extended distances. Nor would it trailer on my Big Tex pipe trailer. The BW would/should make both options possible. Still, I need to know the folded width of the BW126...at least at the floor level. Something I forgot to ask. There's only 83" to play with on the pipe trailer.

The point of the wing is the 5' offset on the side. It'll let me get most of the brush under the tree branches without getting whacked so much and without damaging the trees. In addition, it'll give me some options on banks and hillsides.

Single wing is an oddball, I agree; and I hadn't thought about resale value. Still, getting into a tractor that can handle a 15' double-wing would be beyond anything I can justify. Plus a 15 footer would be too big in too many locations. The quote I got yesterday for the BW126 was $10K....not cheap, by any means, but it seems fair at this point.

Thanks for the responses.

Oh, BTW, I've got two remote hydraulic circuits on the MX, but neither have float. When operating the neighbor's batwing, I always put both circuits in float when full down.

Is lack of float likely to be an issue? I'm wondering if it would keep the wing from following the terrain.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. A straight 10 footer would be an accident waiting to happen over the road for me. The folding 10-12' mower is what I hope to get. I have a cab and the 4-5' of offset will probably save my cab and wallet from severe damage.

I bought a woods pull type last week on an aution that was sold as a 14ft but obviously was'nt that wide and measures 11ft cutting width to me ..any way $350 and it's been cutting dykes and road verges all week but a 75hp JD 2130 would not take it at a comfortable speed and is now on a ford 7600 ..what 95hp ??

Sounds like that was a good deal.

Personally, if I were you guys (Bob Young and Builder) I'd look at this. I think it is a lot better option. Low HP requirements and flex wing capability without being to odd ball if you ever want to get rid of it.

Here's one priced at $9650! And having currently owned a big woods cutter (HD315) and pulled many BushHog's over the years, I'd sooner have the BushHog.
