Rotary Cutter Woods 10' Batwing-BW126, Anybody got one?

Personally, if I were you guys (Bob Young and Builder) I'd look at this. I think it is a lot better option. Low HP requirements and flex wing capability without being to odd ball if you ever want to get rid of it.

Here's one priced at $9650! And having currently owned a big woods cutter (HD315) and pulled many BushHog's over the years, I'd sooner have the BushHog.

2008 BUSH HOG 2212 Rotary Mowers For Sale At TractorHouse.com

Well, yeah, that's my "dream mower". Problem is, I don't have $10 grand laying around during our recession to spend on a mower that might take 5 years to recover.

Bush Hog needs an attractive financing offer to get me into the show room. Only one that has attractive financing is the Landpride Commander 10 or 12 footer. Kubota is financing them at 3-4%. Not bad, but I'd rather have the Hog. I like its' construction better. Love the "suspension" on the axles, too.

I dislike woods only because their paint looks like it was mopped on by a 3rd grader.

Thanks, Luke. That's worth looking into. I pass a BH dealer a couple of times a week. Think I'll print that out and stop in for a chat.

I guess the only cheap way out of this is to not do it. If the price on that 2008 model is the current going price, there's definitely more bang for the buck with BH. My guess is that a new 12 footer purchased locally will be at least $12K.

Woods has always held up well for me and I like the blade quick change feature. I agree, they're not much to look at.

I just purchased a used 10', JD HX10 pull type and pulled it today behind a 50 pto hp JD 4520. The 4520 ran it well. It would pull the engine down in heavy, tall grass but I had to go slower then just to get a good cut anyway. I also have a 15', JD HX15 on a 115 hp tractor. The 4520 with hst made for a very manuverable unit. I could quickly back and turn in areas, that were a chore with the bigger tractor and 15' batwing. Both mowers have a CV pto shaft. The 10' with 540 pto allowed very tight turns. Tractor tire would hit hitch and still not cause any significant chatter in the pto.

The batwing is still much better for mowing roadsides and flexible wing works better in those situations.

we have a 10' side wing mower at work and I know it's been behind a mid 70's ford 4000 diesel. I think something bigger would be ideal.. but for sure it will spin it up. I know a guy that runs a 12' on a 3600 fro cutting light growth road ROW

That one makes me think he's slightly abusing the machine.. but it probably likes the challange.. :)

In response to an email, Woods provided the transport width of the BW126. It's 93"....almost 8'! If that's correct, it pushes the BW126 to bottom of my list. That's too wide for the pipe trailer.

Is the limiting factor due to sides on your trailer? How high are the sides if that is an issue? Even though the transport width is 93" is still may fit on your trailer. My JD batwing will probably clear 18"-20" raised up. Also a width of 93" probably includes the blade and tire of the folded up wing. The width at the bottom of the mower maybe less than 93". The problem is the counter weight box on the bottom maybe 18" in width.

I understand what you're saying, radman. The sides on my pipe trailer go up 15 inches and I've got an 83" width to play with at deck level. When I asked Woods, this information was passed along. It's true that a 93" transport width might translate to something much less at deck or pipe level. Guess I won't know for sure until I find one and make a measurement.

The BH2212, OTOH, has a transport width of 68" according to specs. This would be a breeze to handle on the trailer or the road.

But I'm in no rush. $10K isn't something to be parted from quickly these days and I'm not so sure but what my tractors would struggle to run either mower.

is it going to be heavy cutting?

have you considered a v-wing mower ( like a slope mower? ) vs the offset style?
