Woods 1020 Loader

OK, this is a long shot, but has anyone used, eyeballed, or researched the Woods 1020 loader? I am particularly interested in the 66" or the 72".

It looks awfully good, but I'm afraid it is too much for my little TC35, which only has a 9GPM pump.

9 GPM would be enough for good speed with up to 2.25" cylinders and might be enough for 2.5" cylinders.

I'm not sure it this will help any, but I've got the Woods 1027 loader and love it. It will do more than I'm willing to do and more than my TN75 can handle. The 1027 is the step above the 1020. The dealer orginally had the 1020 on my tractor, but I wanted something a little bit stronger.

The TC35 may be able to hande it, I don't know. An easy way to find out if it's even an option is to call the dealer and see if they make the frame bracket for the 1020 that fits you TC35.

Ya, I guess I need to see what tractors they make kits for. I'll bet that info is hidden somewhere on the 'Net, but finding it is something else again.

Actually, I'm not too hopeful. Although it's rated for 30 Hp and up, I think it's for wider-bodies stuff than my Class III Boomer.

Did you get to use and evaluate the 1020 at all, or did you trade it before you got it dirty?

I can see the writing on the wall that I've got to do something with my 16LA. I only have 325 hours on my TC35/16LA, and it's already loose as a goose.

I had a Woods 1009 on my TC29 and it wasn't that loose after 650 hours. I'm trying to remember, but I think the pins on that little 1009 looked about the same size as my 16LA.

I didn't get to use the 1020 any. Part of my deal was to upgrade to the 1027. The dealer told me that he normally puts the 1020 of the TN series of tractors and not that many people ever step up to the 1027. If the 1020 will fit your tractor I would compare the max loader capacity to the front axle load carrying capacity to make sure there would never be a time you might "over do it". /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

You know, I never thougth about the weight. Although the bucket size would be the same, the loader itself would probably be a good deal heavier.

Woods makes a really good loader. I think a 1020 would be a little large for a TC35. If memory serves me, Woods recommends their 1016 for that tractor.

The Woods 1027 fits the same mount as the 1020. The seem to be basically the same frame, but has larger cylinders than the 1020.

I have a 1016 on my 30HP Kubota - it can stand the tractor on it's nose fairly easily. I would like it to be a little faster . . . I don't know what the flow rate of my hydraulic system is.

It attaches / detaches easy enough and mine is still tight after over 400 hours on the tractor. I have used forks on the bucket and even after some abusive work picking heavy logs the bucket edge although springy - is still straight within 1/8". It is a good loader.

I had a little Woods 1009, and I had a very secure feeling that the tail could wag the dog if I ever needed it to. I think I could have bolted the bucket to bed rock, and the loader would have moved the tractor up in the air and waved it around. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here's a question for you. I hope it's clear:

When dropping (max uncurling) the bucket, does the bucket have a positive stop to bang against, or does it just "free fall"? My 1009 had a positive stop, and it was priceless for knocking sticky dirt from the bucket.

Is your 1016 the quick attach model? If so, have you bought any goodies for it yet?

I've already inquired into a trade, my 16LA for a Kubota or Bush Hog FEL. The dealer said the joy stick stays with the tractor. I always assumed they came together as a kit. I like my NH joy stick a lot, but I'm afraid it would dump on the slow side just like my NH loader. Next, I need to go visit my Woods dealer.

The loader does have a positive stop built into the hinge point that is useful for banging out dirt and clay that clings to the inside of the bucket.

I do not have the quick attach bucket -

One complaint I do have about the controls is that when un-curling the bucket quickly, the unloaded side of the cylinders seem to draw in air from the hydraulic system and it does take a second to reverse direction. I think this has more to do with the joystick hydraulic valves than the actual bucket.

I wish they made hydraulic pressure actuated check valves in the return lines of each circuit so that the unloaded side of the cylinder always had 100 psi or so of residual pressure - this would do wonders to improve control and performance - would probably double the price of the valve body though.

After seeing a few Kubota FEL's all beat to heck, I am glad I bought the Woods loader . . .

Thanks for the info. I'm glad the 1016 Woods has the positive bucket stop.

I wasn't real impressed with the Kubota FEL's I examined at the dealer last week. However, I have heard they are very strong and reliable. My experience with the little Woods 1009 loader was 100% positive, so I am going to look at Woods.

I'm going to have to re-do the pins on my current loader. That's pretty disappointing after only 350 hours.

I'll get a rework estimate, and if it costs more than a cheap lathe I will just buy a one and make my own pins. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The 1016 is available with quick-attach buckets, but understand that this is an option. I heard Woods has updated their valves to allow quicker bucket functions, but not sure if this has been done for the 1016.
