Hello,

Trying to replace the seals on my Woods 750 stabilizers. I managed to loosen the cylinder cap, but with no amount of unscrewing is the cap actually coming off, it just turns. Anyone know why or how I could get it off? I checked for an o-ring of sort thinking this may be preventing the removal of the cap, but there isn't one.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any ideas?

Most Woods cylinders have a wire remainder to hold the gland in, look for a cutout machined into the barrel about half the distance to the fitting boss, you should see a notch with a wire in it. You have to dig the end of the wire up and turn the head to feed it out. I like to spray lube or diesel into the notch and turn it a few times so it will soak in good

Joe thanks for the reply, I just double checked and there are no notches as described.

Seems the cylinder cap should come off easily like this newer version of the BH 750

Looks like the outside ring is frozen to the gland of the cylinder. Now when you try to turn the outside ring, it will rotate the gland as well. Not ideal.

You can may be apply some heat to the ring and try loosening it again.

Another idea could be put the cylinder on the backhoe again, connect just the hose for extending the cylinder, extend it all the way till it applies full system pressure. Hopefully this will apply enough pressure on the gland that will keep from rotating when you're trying to loosening the outside ring again.

Third option, drill two holes on the face of the gland for a pin wrench, between the wiper seal and the outside ring. Hold the gland from rotating with the pin wrench and try loosening the outside ring again.

Just a couple ideas I had once I start thinking out I would do it if it was me.

What ptsg said. Another trick is using a punch and hammer. Sometimes the quick jarring with hammer will do the trick. But using hydraulic pressure is likely going to be needed.
