I don't think you understand either one of those companies. The stuff I'm always hearing is that they are a couple of PC companies that are in trouble. However, if you look at either one of their product lines; it's less than 30% of their total business. Both of them are quite diverse, and have products that are quite complementary to each other. No other company on the planet sells a system like the Compaq Himalya; probably the most reliable computer system on the planet.

That said, I can't comment too much about Woods, except that I like their products. The stuff I've gotten through my dealer has always been first rate.

I'll let you in on a little secret, the woods post hole augers are made by a company called Shaver Mfg. in Iowa, so any of their augers will be the same ones. As a matter of fact any 2" spindle auger will work on other manufacturers. The industry standards for collar siz are 2", 2 9/16, and 2 inch hex.

That's interesting. Which is something I have always wondered, who makes what for whom?

I know most of the tractor makers don't make their own attachments, i.e., FELs, but who makes them for them?

Although my comment was tongue in cheek, I don't believe the HP/Compaq merger is a good thing. I actually know a bit about each of them having worked for one for about 10 years and worked closely with the other in an OEM deal for 2 years, but I certainly don't claim to know all about either of them. In my opinion, both need social engineering to get fixed, and that won't happen by merging. The "HP Invent" is a great slogan - if only the internal behavior reflected the hunger and drive that it suggests. I agree the product overlap isn't 100%, but it is substancial in their core computer businesses. Regardless, I think it's not so much about products as it is about people and attitude.

Both are big companies and of course have a huge mix of people, many extremely tallented, so my appologies to anyone who might work for either and have been offended by my opinions. They both offer many excellent products too.
