Woods Back Blade

Greetings...

I've found a used (barely) 7' Woods Back blade-tilt and swivel (not sure if it offsets or not). Dealer is asking $375-400 (the first time I asked they said 375, the second 400...). Is this a reasonable price?

I'm looking to use it grading and re-ditching an old road with my Yanmar 336 (33 engine hp)-it's about 6' wide, so a 7' blade would be nice, but will this be too much blade for the machine?

I've seen strip mines burn. They go fast. The grasses and a match... pooof! Lots of strip mines 'round here.

I may be up your way come August, not sure just yet. The Fox Family Bluegrass Festival is somewhere 'round there, not exactly sure where.

The Fox Family Bluegrass festivil is in Old Forge, NY, I think...'bout 1.25 hours from my humble mountainous residence (ok, it's just a barn now, but I've got plans...).

If you know the model of the blade you can find out the weight. The specs for your tractor should show the max weight for the three point hitch. If you have a FEL you won't need the front weights. If you don't have a FEL you may need front weights to counter weight the back blade.

The designs I've seen that allow you to offset, involve two adjustments on the main beam. One is near the 3 pt. The other is near the blade swivel adjustment.

A used equipment place near me has an old heavy 6' blade that is priced at $600. The price you got sounds good to me if the blade is one of the reinforced ones. Woods makes some good stuff.

Guys, I got one thing to add about strip mines. They burn forever. Ask the people of Centralia, Pa. It's ruining their town. Not a laughing matter at all. About the blade seems pretty close to the figures that most dealers have given me. I'm looking for a bit smaller blade (5'to6').

I have a Woods RB59 that I use with my Yanmar 186D. Works fine although I haven't done any heavy grading with it. It is really a light duty blade in any case. I saw a bent RB59 at the Kubota dealer and he wanted $350 for it. Most of the rear blades I have seen look like it wouldn't be very hard to cut a little off if they turned out to be too big.

Thanks for the link...it saved me some looking /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I think I'll stop by the dealer again tomorrow and figure out exactly what model it is...I suspect I should go at least medium duty, knowing what I'll be throwing at it (very rocky road to grade and re-ditch).

Just pickup a Woods RB60 for $306 (5'). I have a JD4100 and it should do everything I need. It has 5 fw 3rev and some angle position. It does not come with an offset but it should be easily modified with two more holes in the blade to make it offset 12" It was $100 less than the JD dealers green copy.
