Hi all, I'm a newbie but may be getting a 4220 soon and wondered if anyone had a good source for a Woods bh80x with a thumb. So far the prices I have gotten have been around the 8K mark installed. Seems very high but from what I've read the Woods is the way to go...even from a Branson dealer who does lots of backhoe attachments. There is one on ebay right now that seems cheap but by the time you do shipping frame attachment etc.. it's still around $7500.
I may be better off just renting the Takaheuchi TB135 I've had to rent in the past. Seems as though even with the Woods the breakout force with this tractor is still meager compared to a mini excavator. I'll have lots of 3",4" stumps to dig out and some 30" stumps to dig out and then bury. I'm clearing about an acre and will be building on this site over the next year(hopefully). Not sure if the backhoe will be cost effective over just renting for $300/weekend for a mini excavator. The 4220 will have the FEL and forks but that is it. ;)

I was just thinking, what are the differences between the two hoes?

Try ebay. I saw a few new bh80x ground breakers for a great price.

Yes, but by the time you ship, get the subframe mount and deal with the install it ends up being the same as my local dealer.

I just compared the bh80x to the 8620 and they seam to have the same specs. I don't think the woods would have a ridged mount, I think you would have to mount it with the three point, that would be a draw back for me.

Woods has both. The hoes over 6' they always recommend the subframe mount. They call it a 4 pt mounting with their subframe kits. Very sturdy. I looked at one yesterday. Woods has a 2 year warranty others have 1 year. Even my local dealer here says the Woods hoe is the way to go. They don't put the 8620 on at their shop unless a customer is really wanting the Branson. The buckets on the Woods look to be quite a bit stronger. If I can justify the cost I'm going towards the Woods.
