I just ordered a woods 6500 backhoe with a manual thumb for my kubota 7500. Anyone have a munual thumb attached to their hoe? How well do they work? I want to pick up one and two man rocks for building a rock wall.
I have two manual thumbs /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have a Woods 9000 BH and can see where a thumb could be handy. Lots of downed trees, some brush, etc.. would like to hear peeps experience with them as well.
I am not sure who makes the thumb. I will find out next week when I get the hoe delivered. It cost 600.00 to have it installed. Dealer claims I will be able to lift 800 lb rocks with it. We will see......
Hi Rowski
Beautiful project and interesting thumb design. My buddy and I are getting close to finishing building a Caddigger 821 Backhoe and have been discussing the potential of fabricating a thumb. A few questions if I may: what is your bucket dimension? Does the thumb brace have only one piece and does it attach in the centre of the boom extension? What is the thickness of the steel used? How does it fasten out of the way when you don't want/need it?
Do you have any additional photos you can post?
Thanks.

My bucket is a 24" heavy duty. It's SAE heaped capacity is 4.12 cu. ft.
The thumb brace is a single piece. There are three pieces, the bracket which aattaches to the crowd arm, the thumb its self, and the brace. I'm not sure if it attaches in the center of the dipper or not. I have a feeling it maybe about a 1/3 of the way up. But I didn't have a choice of where to put it because it came that way. There are two settings for the thumb and then its stored position. I don't have the dimensions of the steal. The backhoe is still winterized. I hope to take it out of storage this week, weather permiting. I can give you specs then if you like.
