Backhoe Woods BH70 PRV adjustment

Running a Woods BH70X with 16" bucket on a 2005 NH TC34. Understand it's a backhoe on an ag tractor, so has its limits for operator safety and tractor structure. However, when digging out rocks from the field the PTV lets go with what seems very little effort, nowhere near the rated 3115 pounds of digging force. Rocks are not huge, about 16 by 20 inches typical max.

Can the PRV be adjusted for more power? If so, how do I find a qualified pro to do it properly?

Well, I doubt any dealer would adjust it beyond factory spec. but a local hydraulics shop might. I turned mine up one flat of the alan and it suited me fine. Its a fairly simple job, take the cover off the valve assembly, and locate the in or pressure side of the valve. The PRV has a metal cap that protects the adjustment screw. loosen the cap and to turn up the pressure, turn the alan clockwise. I would recommend installing a pressure gauge to set an accurate pressure.

Please note that Woods rates that hoe for only about 2000psi, to give a dipper digging
force of 2000#. The breakout force is what you quote as 3115#, which is the max you
get with the bucket curl.

Your tractor is rated somewhat higher (2300-2500psi?) so you may not want to increase
the hoe's RV much over the Woods spec. It IS true that some new hyd equipment is
set below spec when sold.

You DO want to use a gauge as JD4310 states, to verify RV's setting, esp since the
tractor's is higher.
