Woods BH7500 - Boom cylinder Restrictor question

Hi All,

Is there a way to tell if the hose connection to the lower section of the boom cylinder on my Woods BH7500 backhoe has the stock O-Ring Base (ORB) to JIC connector WITH the 3/32" (0.094") restrictor installed without having to take the hose and adapter off and looking down its barrel? Is there a telltale way of knowing of it might have been removed by a previous owner?

I ask because the boom movement up, but especially down, is super fast and very jerky. I'd like to slow it down.

I would get a strong magnifying glass and see if there is any info written on the fitting? Often on the flats where a wrench would go.

If you are lucky you will find a product number which you can then trace to determine the fitting properties.

I had a bh7500 (bought new in 1998) on a previous tractor. I never realized there were any restrictions built in, but mine was very jerky, especially trying to feather the boom out. Gravity is working against you.

A restrictor to slow the boom from dropping fast ìs as far as I know from my experience is just a washer in the fitting where the hose connects to the cylinder. It often gets lost when a hose is replaced. The washer has a small hole to restrict the flow.

A true restrictor is built into a fitting and cannot be easily removed. You can drill the orifice larger if needed.
These are usually used by OEM manufacturers of equipment who have the technical expertise to calculate the size they need to achieve the performance they want.

The next sophistication up is a fixed orifice in one direction and non restricted flow in the opposite direction.

You can buy adjustable flow restrictors which will only restrict in one direction. These are used by owners of equipment who want to be able to zoom in on the performance they are looking for.
