Have a chance at one or the other with 9" auger. Want to use it on a L3301 in rocky ground. Price is around 800 for either.
The Woods seems near new.

Which one would you guys lean toward? They both seem good from past posts.

Thank you,
Lenny

Haven't seen anyone who has had any luck with a 3pt PHD in rocky soil. Typically PHD work can be hired out for the homeowner for less than you could buy it. The other option is to rent an auger on a skid steer so you have downward pressure and can move a bit to miss rocks.
The L39xx has enough GPM to handle a small hydraulic auger. You would need a third function that has a solenoid designed for continuous duty. Then mount to a SSQA and go for it! Maybe your rental yard has an auger that would meet your specs so you could rent just the auger.

For the homeowner the PHD is just a piece of yard art after the fence gets built.

Either one will serve you well. The Daneuser has a better reputation though. You can always get a down pressure kit if the PHD has problems with the conditions.

Good luck with your decision.

I have a Danuser. It's the heaviest phd in it's class. I live in a rocky area too and installed the rock teeth on the auger. It works very well, as it brings up rocks the size of a fist. I try to avoid digging in the summer months when the ground is hard, but it will still do ok then. I made a stand for it, as it's too heavy to constantly hook up while just chained to a barn pole. I disagree about the use. While it's not used all the time like a mower, I use mine for planting trees, dog run poles, mailboxes, and any other improvement I want to do around the farm. For $800, you can keep it for several years and sell it for about what you paid for it. Danuser will send you an owner's manual (they sent mine for free) and the safety decals. They are a good company located in mid Missouri.
