Meteor's are not known for their quality. Many use them, but they are considered 'economy' items. Woods would likely be a better machine, but there is no guarantee of that - go by weight. Most blowers are of similar design, so more weight means thicker steel - the heavier the better. Also, regarding the fan, 4 blades is better than 3, and bigger is usually better there too.

I have had good luck with my mid-90's vintage Meteor 60".

That said, owners of newer models reported gearbox issues. You might want to ask how much the gearbox is to replace.

Yeah, I am not going to agree with that. I ran a Meteor 68" blower for nine years without any issues and went through major drifts (4' to 5') like it was butter, but it was on a blacktop driveway and not a gravel driveway. Meteor has made many improvement since I bought my 68" blower. I now own a brand new Meteor 75" and there a lot of new modifications that are nicer. Also the Meteor 68" weights 506lbs while the Woods 64" weights 416lbs and the Meteor blowers have four fan blades like the Woods. I am not going to say Meteor is better than Woods, but I do not think Meteor is an economy blower; it is a pretty stout blower these days with good hydraulics.

No offense. Meteor is very popular around here - it is the default brand for most of the tractor shops. I do not have a good impression of them, but that is through hear-say on my part - they surely do the job or they wouldn't still be around. I seem to remember not liking the Woods design either - at least the old ones were open across the top. Didn't seem like a good way to go - I know I needed the top plate last time I ran my blower:

From MY experience, get the Meteor. My last blower was a Woods. Meteor is built heavier. Period.

Mn SIL recently compared the Woods 64" to the Meteor 68"....both with hydraulic spout and shoes. He bought the Meteor.

The New Holland Dealer here sells the Meteor Snowblowers. They have some for tractors that run off the PTO shaft and some for skid steers instock. I look on the website and they look like a good snowblower, do not knnow what they cost but here is a link to there website, this should give you more info on the Meteor snowblower.

I own a 68 meteor pull type and do a 1 mile private road where I live and would recommend to anyone to buy it. I like the pull type because of the distance not having to back up. I havent had any real damage to snowblower, and the maintenance has been minimal.

Have you found any limitations with this snow blower? Such as not being ably to drive the tractor thru a drift?
