I've been using my RB72 rear blade for snow removal for 7 years without a problem until this year. The bolt that is used to pivot the blade broke right where the threads enter the nut. I was able to extract the broken piece and install a new bolt. Can someone tell me the torque specs for the pivot bolt. Should the bolt be left loose enough to allow the blade to pivot or do I angle the blade, then torque the bolt? rb72_bolt.jpeg

This nut/bolt on my LandPride rear blade(RB3596) is tightened down tight(150 ft/lbs) and then backed off 1/2 turn. Even being only backed off half a turn the 'ol blade rattles around a lot when traveling with it in the raised position. Land Pride told me - "definitely do not tighten this nut/bolt down tight". The blade must be able to "rattle around" or it will put too much stress on the nut/bolt.

By the way, I forgot to mention, that "pivot bolt" is grade 8 on my Land Pride.

Mine is also grade 8. Thanks for the help.

If you tighten it too tight you will not be able to turn the blade. I tighten it down til I can't turn the blade then I loosen it til I can turn it easily but so it still has a little drag on it. I put some grease on the bolt so the blade so it won't rust and make the blade hard to turn.

You may want to go over the blade and make sure the rest of the bolts are tight. There are several bolt torque charts online and they are in the back of the Woods owners manuals. Bolt Torque Chart | Portland Bolt

Mine will loosen a turn or two after an hour or two of use. I can see how being loose would keep trying to bend the bolt as you used the blade. I do like 94BULLITT and loosen it just barely enough to turn, then check it once in a while.

I've been considering some kind of lock so the bolt can't turn after adjustment.

thanks for the replies. The bolt cost $22, so I hope it doesn't break again.

You could put red loctite on it to keep it from loosening once you get it tightened were you want it.

I have the similar blade but a KK make from Fleet Farm...when I got it - it was SOOOOO stiff to rotate (!!!)that I took it apart and put a piece of plastic from a cheap roll up snow sled ( super slippery) between and around pivot point ; Makes it turn so much better...also welded plate steel to sides of upper tube to reinforce pivot point after hammering selector holes after hitting rock frozen into road shoulder while plowing deep snow ( mine also has large shaft with castle nut on top of tube to hold together ( with cotter pin hole) instead of through bolt like yours
