I have Woods RD6000 finish mower a friend let me borrow and the belt is slipping off. I checked the spring on the idler and it seems good. I'm guessing the mower is 5+ years old but he only used it a handful of times then bought a tractor with a MMM and let this one sit outside for several years with no maintenance or care.

When I got it I greased everything, changed the oil in the gear box, and sharpened the rusty, badly dulled blades and it has run really well for me. Now the belt is popping off the pulleys and I'm assuming it is simply from exposure and the breakdown caused by it.

I downloaded the manual from Wood's website but it says for parts to call a dealer. I'm guessing a Woods brand replacement is a pretty penny and I don't have too many of those right now so I'm wondering if anyone knows what size the belt is and if I can get an off-brand equivalent for a better price?

Thanks for your help.

My RM600 has a Dayco BP128 Super Blue Ribon . This might no be the same belt yours takes but Dayco should have one that fits yours. If your belt looks good I would look for a different problem. I've ran some pretty chewed up belts without them jumping off. Take your belt off and check for play in all the pullys and idlers.

Thanks for the info on the belt yours runs and about checking for other problems.

I went out and pulled the covers off the pulleys and the belt is busted. It has several bad cracks in it as well. I think it has just been beat to death by the elements.

I measured the belt and it it was around 117-1/2 to 117-3/4 inches long. I'm guessing some of that length is due to "stretch" but I'll be honest I don't know much about V-belts. It seemed to measure about 9/16" wide and 1/2" deep so I'm guessing it is a Series C V-Belt.

If anyone knows for sure I'd sure appreciate confirmation. Otherwise I guess I'll just call a local Woods dealer and see what the specs are on the belt and see if I can't cross reference it to a national brand.

Thanks again.

Okay, I just started looking up your belt suggestion and I relaized BP is the series (as opposed to C as I originally thought) and it is close to the measurments I came up with. A BP cross section is 21/32" X 7/16". So mine might be that as well. I'm guessing the 128 in your part number is the length so I don't think it is the identical belt as used on mine but thanks for posting about it anyway. Got me looking and I discovered there are other sizes than the classical A,B,C,etc...

See if your local parts store has a BP 116 and a BP117 and take back the one that doesn't fit.

I just got back form NAPA and they stock BP 115 and 119, nothing in between. It would be a special order so I would have to keep it if it was he wrong size.

I tried a couple of dealers today but none are open. I guess I'll have to wait until next week.

Thanks

Update....
I'm not sure if it is the "correct" size or not but a BP118 belt fits pretty darn snug in there.

I went ahead and ordered one from the local NAPA ($30) and put it on tonight. I was worried since I was basically shooting in the dark but it fits pretty darn good. Now if it ever stops raining I might be able to mow my 10"+ grass.

I have a feeling I'm going to go through a lot of diesel next week!

Well it's been 3 years and I had to replace the belt again. I referenced this thread since I didn't write the belt size down the last time I changed the belt.

Well I either mistyped the belt size three years ago or my mower has shrunk. I bought another 118 belt and it was way too big. I ended up putting a 116 on there and it fits perfect.

Anyway, I thought I better update this in case anyone else digs it up and goes out and buys the wrong belt.
