I have never seen a Renovator in person, but wondered if it could replace a pulverizer for some soil preparation and leveling? I sure like the idea that it can seed new and exisiting lawns. Does anyone have any input on how it does as an overseeder?
Thanks

I've rented one on several occasions. It's a bit of a compromise as far as an overseeder. Works best in well prepared soil. Adaquate at best in existing turf. Press wheel does a fair job of firming soil, but doesn't do a lot to deal with clods. A true pulverizer works better for that. (I own a Leinbach pulverizer) Spikes on front roller tend to break off at the slightest hint of rocks. Also, doesn't take too well to making turns, even slight ones, with rollers on the ground. Bends (and breaks) spikes very easily doing that. Seed metering (and distribution) is VERY good.

Thanks for the post. I assume you mean the rennovator is delicate, not your pulverizer? I believe that I read that you pounded your Leinbach pulverizer and it just keeps ticking. If I get a pulverizer, I am leaning toward the woods, but it is about 1400 plus tax, where I think I can get a Leinbach delivered by on online vender for $899. They do look like they are constructed a bit differently, but I doubt my small tractor would ever tell the difference. Maybe you could answer the question of does the Leinbach have two rows of teeth on the "H" beam, both front and rear like the woods, or is there just one row? Any thoughts on comparing the two would be great.

Thanks for your informative posts!

Yeah, the Woods Super Turf Renovator has a few weak points.

I've owned one Leinbach pulverizer for 6 years. I've got a job lined up this fall, grading and seeding quite a bit of acreage. It's a waterway/filter strip and a good bit of grass roadside at a big horse farm near me. I've got a short, quick window of opportunity to get it ready and seeded. So, to insure no delays, I bought a 2nd Leinbach pulverizer. I got mine at "old prices", delivered for $799. A 6' Woods was well over $1400 through my cheapest source. I've used 'em both and the Leinbach does just as good of a job, holds up well under hard use, and without creating such a large void in my wallet. To me, that makes it BETTER! The Leinbach and the Woods (Gill) pulverizers are designed different, but BOTH are of sufficient strength and structural integrity to withstand quite a bit of abuse. Mine spends most of it's time behind a 60 HP/7500 lb tractor. Not the first sign of failure. Both brands are of adaquate weight to do the job required. No shortcomings with either. Advantage to the lower price......

Yes, 2 rows of "teeth" on the Leinbach.

Pulverizers are also the greatest thing I've ever used to grade a gravel road.
