Woods RM990 & Brush

I have some weeds and brush that I would like to clear for a new pasture. I am buying a Kubota L4240 and the dealer has a used RM990 for $1500. I don't really want to spend $1000 plus for a brush hog that I may really only need once for clearing the initial brush. I assume I could use the RM990 to mow the pasture in the future, and maybe even mow the lawn (since my zero turn rider is currently out of service!).

My question is...how well does the RM 990 do with weeds/brush/small trees?

The 990 will handle the weeds and brush just fine..... small trees....???? How small???... How many???

I wouldn't want to be using my 990 on small trees.....

The 990 is a great mower........but it's not a bush hog....... you may have to make the first pass cutting high.........then lower to deck to the height you want to maintain the pasture.

I don't think an RM990 is at all suited to your needs. Can you post a phone number for the dealership where it sits? (Just kidding)

I ended up getting the mower and a box scraper for $1600.

The mower looks huge at 90"! I will try it, but I just won't use it in heavy brush or saplings...I can use the FEL for that.

The mower was on a big Allis Chalmers 180 with Cat 2 3PH. I guess I'll have to change the pins to Cat 1 for my Kubota. I am also curious how my 35 PTO HP tractor will do with such a big mower...any thoughts?

40 PTO HP runs mine fine.

I think the mower comes setup for Cat 1 so you shouldn't have to change anything.

I run my 990 with 45 PTO HP and it doesn't even know it's back there.
