I would say yes you need a press. Does the pulley on top have a tapered bushing holding it on? If so remove it and everything presses out the bottom of the housing.
yea, the pulley is held on by a tapered Bushing as you described. I have that off and the spindles on the work bench. unfortunately I dont own a press :-( I was hoping I could just hit them a few times and they would come apart. but no dice.
You may get lucky and be able to tap it back together with a hammer and wooden block but be prepared to press it back on so you don't mess anything up.
Just wanted to follow up on this for others in future. This is possible without a press. Drive #4 roll pin out and a bfh and it will come apart. I used a piece of pipe to drive bearings on and off. Honestly the worst part was driving the old races out. For some reason they didn't want to move.
Yodie - just wondering did you replace all bearings and seals in each spindle? OEM Woods parts or aftermarket generic?
What was parts cost per spindle. Thanks
