Ok, I have too many pieces of equipment. This is a Woods TPR72 power rake. Oops.
I searched and didn't find much on 3 pt. power rakes so I thought I would share in case anyone is looking at one. I am new to power rakes and still learning every time out. I was looking to buy a new one and got very lucky and scored this one off CL. I put new drum bearings in and added the cylinder to have hydraulic angle. I also put a new nylon tensioner block in a lubed the #80 chain.
First a few general things. I run this rake on an LS 4155HC. 55hp, cab with hydro-static drive. I think you could successfully run this 6' power rake on 30hp. Probably less just taking your time moving forward.
Next, this setup is maybe 1/2 as powerful as a skid steer driven power rake. While I can peel compacted gravel driveways, its really too hard on the machine. It just doesn't have the weight and power to regularly do that and not self-destruct. However; its a dream spreading new gravel up to 2 1/2 inch. Easy peasy and you can't beat the results. I've ran a box blade many years on a lot of projects and do fairly well with one. The results aren't even close, the power rake leaves a far superior finish grade in about 1/2 the time.
This power rake will peel hard clay, Bermuda grass ect fairly easily and of course, any type of loose material including wet or dry hard clay chunks. It eats it all with relative ease and produces a very very nice seed bed.
I am going to add some pictures along the way but first here's a couple of video's from a recent project. The first video shows the first 2 passes after the backhoe did a rough back-fill in some absorption trenches. In a few places I had to hit the diff lock to get through the trench. I'm going slow to keep from beating up my equipment and that's about the horsepower limit of my tractor when the rake digs in.
