My wife recently completed 20 years of service at a major hospital.
Although they did give her choices as to what her "Service Award" should be, the best thing on there was a mid-sized shop vac...

Having worked for the federal government, a local school board, and a city, I'd say he got more than most government organizations give for 10 years service. I got a little half inch silver pin (badge replica) that could be worn on the uniform or used as a tie stick pin. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif And after 20 years, I got a gold one. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I worked for a state agency for 31 years...in recognition of my service I received a certificate at 10 years, my second at 15 years, a third at 20 years, one more (framed this time) at my 25 year anniversary, and finally the last one noting my 30 years of service a year before I retired.

In recognition of my dedicated service, I was awarded a gold watch at my retirement ceremony...but it was given to me by the people I had worked with, NOT MY EMPLOYER.

Five service certificates over a 31 year career...yes, working for a government agency sure has great perks.

Recognition for a job well done creates motivation to work harder...

Sometimes a simple "Thank You" helps, but times like the example Junkman is showing will make you feel as you were knocked flat on your face by your employer. It appears that person feels his employer equates his worth of 10 years of hard work to that of a five dollar pen and pencil set.
