I have a concrete slab patio level with the yard. When it rains, worms by the scads crawl onto the concrete and die leaving a mess. It is a never ending battle trying to keep it cleaned off. Is there any way to deter them from journeying into my space? My only thought is to spray the perimeter with bifen, but I doubt that will work. Anyone got any potential solutions I might try?

Edit: The title should read worms not works. Autocorrect sucks sometimes.

I feel your pain; it happens here all the time...a good rain and my driveway and front porch are covered. However, spraying is something I do very rarely, so I usually just ignore it and pat myself on the back for having an ecologically healthy lawn. I then just wait until the sun comes out, get out the hose and a high pressure nozzle, and give it a good washing.

I bought citric acid on Amazon, sprayed around my house and had ZERO frogs croaking in 48 hours (we were up every night!!!). I’d assume the worms would stay away from a little citric acid too. I just mixed 1-2 cups of concentrate powder/crystals per gallon and sprayed it out of my sprayer. No damage to plants or paint that I could find.

Chickens eat the worms, you eat the chickens. Sounds like a win win

Except the chicken poop throws a monkey wrench in the whole winning cycle.

Do concrete patios in Texas require fertilizer? It is not generally needed on them around here as far as I know :D

Aaron Z

Helps the concrete grow faster and improves it's overall color. Real shame when it washes off into the grass around it. :)

Re: Works on my patio

Then he would have chicken poop everywhere but no worms LOL

I moved my free ranging chickens up the road for two reasons; I like walking around in bare feet, and my dog thought that it was his dessert.

Open a bait shop. You won't need to scrounge around the local football field at night with red cellophane taped over a flashlight. There's a lot of money in bait.

The good news is a lot of worms means your soil is probably pretty healthy. :)

Don't muck it up with unneeded chemicals trying to repel earthworms.

The Robins get up early to eat up all the worms....early bird gets the worm(s).

Great idea, but the worms that end up on my driveway, are about the diameter of a tooth pick and about half the length.

I'm surprised that the robins won't eat them all.

I get the bigger worms on my concrete after a lot of rain. Not enough to worry about though, just wait for the sun to dry them out and then use a leaf blower to remove them that is the ones the chickens dont get.
