Would gauge wheels on my landscape (rock) rake help me do a little better job smoothing small crushed gravel in my driveway? My rake worked fine on powdery stuff when flat on the ground but in trying to leave and inch or so of gravel I am having some "dips" and "dumps" in coverage.

How about adding gauge wheels to my 8 ft Woods landscape rake?

I think the gage wheels on my landscape rake made a world of difference. If you have the tools and skills make some because the manufactures wheels are pricey.

I have gauge wheels on my rake and they work great. I have a large gravel driveway and in the spring after I have tore it up from snow removal. I get the rake out to smooth it out. Once you have it set up it only takes one or two passes and you have a nice looking and smooth gravel drive. The wheels help in taking out the high and low spots. I also like using it after I cut a tree down to rake up all the small branches. With gauge wheels you can rake it up into windrows without gouging the ground up. Gauge wheels makes a good tool even better in my opinion.

Another vote for gauge wheels! For me, they make getting the final grade much easier. I know plenty of folks do just fine without them but for me it meant constant attention and adjustment of the rake. With the wheels you set it and forget it, the wheels keep it where it needs to be instead of you jockeying the 3PT to keep up with every bump and dip. The more uneven the surface is when you start out the more they show their value.

Mine allow each wheel to be adjusted independently (as I think most do) so I set the inside high and the outside low then angle the rake to "dump" toward the center of the road. Does a really good job of pulling the gravel that gets pushed to the sides back into the road and helps put a crown back.

As action said, the gauge wheels also make it easier on the ground when cleaning up from fallen trees, which we seem to have had a lot of this year!
