I was wondering if it would hurt to put a RR tie or 8x8 about 5-6 foot away from each end of my new 40' container when the guy unloads it so later on maybe I can level the ground better at the ends and lift the container up on each end and slide the RR ties/8x8's out the the end of the container? Would it bend the container having it not sitting on the ends of it? Thanks!!!

If it is empty it won't hurt it and it would take a lot of weight to damage it. You would not believe how much they can take when moving around on the ground. You can even jack them up and push the jack over to get them in a better position.
When loading them onto a 48' trailer from a job site we just hooked chains to the pockets and dragged them up on the trailer with a hydraulic winch and cable on the front of the trailer. The Landoll Trailer has hydraulics that lift the front of the trailer up and let the rear down to ground level. To unload just tilt bed and drive out from under them.
The company that I worked for rented them out for storage so I did a lot of pick up and delivery.

I'm inclined to say no but I guess in depends if you're driving something heavy like a tractor into it. I think I would go ahead and use something to support under the door anyway.

I agree with Stimw, you will not hurt he container at all by putting those RR ties back a few feet from each end. Look at the pictures in my link. These guys are breaking the "rule" that you always lift from the top. Their truck is designed to lift and place the container from the bottom. Look at the runners/skids underneath the container. There is plenty of support for what you want to do, especially on an empty container. Keeping the container off the ground so you can easily get jacks under it is a good plan. Go for it!

Keeping it off the ground should help preserve the wood floor and bottom metal from rusting too. Less likely to get rats in there if it's elevated. Mine, a 20'er, has sat on the ground for several years and I would love to set it up on some ties.

What is a reasonable price for a 40' container and what would it typically cost to move it?

Would also be interested in what you guys have set yours on.

Shouldn't be a problem on the very outer edge. Steel can ?

Overseas containers are built to exacting standards. We constantly lift them with a 4 corner lift truck. Some weighing as much as 65000# with no deflection at all.Exterior paint is a epoxy, resistant to rust and corosion. The hardwood floors are 1 9/16 inch thick specially treated for resistance to insects and corosion and moisture, rated for 20,000lb forklifts.Cheapest prices for containers are found near port cities and delivery prices depend on local cartage rates. We use a Landoll trailer with a tilt bed sliding axle and a winch.Combined with a Freightliner FLD this is a very manuverable vehicle. We will deliver just about anywhere. The ideal base is R/R ties for airflow, however this creates habatat for critters. We often set them on a good level base of 3/4 minus gravel they will last for years with no problems.Cheap secure storage. We offer modification by adding roll-up doors, man doors, windows, electrical etc.For more info send me a PM
