So, I am in the midst of designing my summer project. A stump grinder which I desperately need.

I am planning on ripping off the Bauman design. Making a couple of PT changes but this is basically the idea.

But as I look at it, I wonder how much stress I am going to put on the PT by running it sideways. My front end is similar to the1430

Here is a clip of the bad boy in action

Hi.
I had a shaver sc25 mounted on my tractor a l4400 kubota
38 pto horsepower, it did 3000.00 worth of damage after
about 600 hrs of use, warranty covered it after much
haggling with the dealer, they wanted me to buy a bigger
tractor, so i am going to go to a stand alone grinder, no
more pto powered ones for me, you can check out the
grinder at shaver website, similair to the baumalight..

Hope this helps..

Did you have a PTO or Hydrualic version? Either way. 7K for the machine???? I can buy a used one for 4K with an engine allready on it..

So what was the damage done to your machine if you don't mind me asking?

HI Shane..

It broke the sleeve that engages the pto in half, plus
did a lot of damage to the gears, they had to completely
rebuild the entire pto, it was not pretty...

I had to really fight to get the warranty to cover it..

I never could figure out why something did not break in
the grinder, driveshaft, slip-clutch, u-joint etc b4 breaking
the pto, which led me to believe that the shaver
stump grinder was better built than my pto, the grinder
was rated for 15-40 hp, the tractor was 44 hp, 38 at pto..

It really hurt, hurricane ike came in and i was w/o a grinder..

When i bought the tractor i bought the grinder with it and
the dealer installed it, inc the hydraulics and never said
anything regarding the pto, this was my main arguement
in getting the warranty to cover it and the kubota rep agreed..

I had about 600 hrs on tractor, i figure about 300 mowing and
300 stump grinding...

I am in the process now of deciding wether to buy a stand
alone grinder, i/e vermeer or rayco, or just go after more
brush-hog and mowing business..

I hope you have better luck with your grinder..

Thanks for the response i know with mine i can't take as big of a bite as the dealer site claims. And i can definitely feel the tractor being used.

I will be more careful [even though i am now] in the future.

I am looking for a Skid Steer for this years work, i don't want my tractor to get beat up to much. So i will be mounting the grinder on the SS
