I found this started arrowhead this afternoon while sitting on the tractor. I say a started arrowhead because it looks like the Indian that was making it might have broken it before he finished. The base is there and has a good taper and one of the notches is there but I wonder if it broke before he could finish it. I have found many tips and bottoms of broken ones but this one looks like one that wasn't finished. I found it behind my Grandmothers house where we plan to build ours. I found a number of them through my teenage years. Every year when it would get plowed in preparation for planting I would put my three wheeler in low gear and slowly putt putt back and forth across the field. Dad said I was lazy and would never find them that way, but I did. Attached is a pic.

Brent the front part of that arrowhead is probably still sticking in the Buffalo that that Indian aimed at. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not an expert, but there are other stone tools besides arrowheads. And some arrowheads only had one notch. I have a "knife" that was held in the hand, no notches. Although probably an arrowhead, it may have been a cutting tool. You should be able to tell if it was worked all around, or if it was broken. (I can't tell from photo.) And sometimes broken points would be reworked to make tools.

Some were cutter/scrapers for cleaning hides.. I found one this summer in the creek after a big rain.

I have one small thin piece that I believe was probably a scraper of some sort and I have a small chisel that leaves no doubt about what it is. I found it about 5 miles away on a Boy Scout hike. I will dig it out and get a picture up.
