I found this post on my local KIJIJI today
Float Services | farming equipment | Kawartha Lakes | Kijiji

Would there be any way to legally tow the weight this guy says he's licensed for?
It's in Ontario Canada

If it's legal, It might allow me to move my backhoe myself if I can find a similar set up.

What's legal and what's smart are often two different things. Common sense tells me the guy is often pulling a lot more weight than that truck is designed for.

My cottage is down 127, just before Whitney. We drive by your door to get there. I can tell you, I sure wouldn't want to have that much weight behind that little truck on some of the hills around you.

It is amazing how many people don't get it. It is not how much weight you can pull but rather how much weight you can stop.
My BX2200 can pull a locomotive. Don't want to be on it when it is time to stop.
I cannot imagine he would not be pulled over and weight checked by a LEO.

LOL Thats what I was thinking too!
My backhoe is 14k lbs give or take, I dunno if I'd want to try coming down the hill into Madawaska on Hwy. 60!!
That is, if it would even make it up there in the first place!

I doubt you'd even see Madawaska on the way through! Before they added the passing lane, there were times we'd get stuck behind logging trucks that we didn't think would make it up it.

There has been more than a few trucks burn on that hill over the years.
I have another question now:
I've been looking at a few different ford f550's 2010 to 2013, most are advertised with a 19500 gvw.
I'd like to set one up with a hooklift and removable 5th wheel (saw one done like this, it was pretty slick)
From what I can gather from reading online,
heres one place http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/towingguides/12FLRVTT_SuperDtyCCjul1.pdf

if I have the right f550 and trailer combo I may be good for around 26000 lbs gross trailer weight. That should be enough to move my backhoe.
I have no idea if that would be legal in Ontario tho. I'm tiring to read up on the Ontario registration laws but it's not totally clear to me...

I wonder if he mixed up lbs and kg.
He says that the trailer can handle "15 tonne", that would be 30,000# or 33,000# on the deck (which would be about right for a trailer with 2 12k axles and a lot of pin weight) and 24,500# would be about right for a registered trailer weight.
I don't think that that combo could handle 53,000# without breaking...

Welcome, I wouldn't want to have to stop that load coming down a hill with the road conditions in Northern Ontario you might end up in the Ottawa River especially this time of year!!!
PS My grandfather was born in Killaleo

There's no way. Licensed for 24,000 lbs... is possible. The strongest black trailers I've seen are rated for ~ 10 ton and looking at that particular unit, it doesn't even have a deep I-beam under it.

But you can register your truck for whatever you want... sooo...
