Mitsubishi MT372, Ford NAA
So, I currently have a MT372 (2-wheel drive) I just put in a clutch, and cleaned up wiring, and it has fresh gear oil. It has about 890 hrs on it.

I recently found a S-470 (4-wheel drive). It runs good, but probably needs a clutch soon, as well as a lot of cleanup of wiring etc (the plastic seems to corrode pretty good when they sit out) the 3point works well but the pins that mount the arms on tractor are bent. It has about 670 hrs on it. The guy is asking $2500.00 with no implements. I'm considering a trade.

My current tractor works well for what I do with it. Although the 4WD might be handy at times. I have put a fair amount of sweat equity into my current tractor. The 470 of course has a few more HP as well, something like 18 vs 15.

Would you died in the wool Mitsu followers make this trade? And no I can't have both:)

STAY PUT ! DO NOT TRADE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOURS.
You yourself state your tractor works well for what you do with it.

I have a 470 with 4wd and a Mitsubishi grey, 1450 with 4wd. The 1450 is the equivalent to a Mits. 373 which is basically a 372 except with 3 cylinders instead of 2. You will not regret the switch to 4wd but make sure you know all you need to about the 470 condition. The clutch is probably the same one in the 372. My Buck was bought new by my Dad a long time ago. It looks pretty rough, having been rolled 3 different times but it still starts very good and has always been a good tractor.

I wouldn't trade the devil you know for one you don't. I have an ST1440 with the K3A engine. Unless you're mowing or tilling and the current tractor just doesn't have the power you need, I don't see any reason to trade. You've got something that has been repaired and brought into service and does what you want. I like two cylinders better than three cylinder engines anyway; the extra torque and lugging ability they have about makes up for their lower horsepower rating in my estimation.

My information shows the Buck's K3B engine being 16 to 18 hp, and the KE70 in the 372 being 15 hp, both at the PTO. However, tractordata.com has the Buck at 15 hp and the 372 at 12.2 hp. Either way, the Buck is a step up in power, but it may not be as much as it should be on paper.

It's worrisome to me that the lower link pins are bent. I don't know how one could do that short of brutally abusing the tractor. It seems indicative of mistreatment, and is a red flag to me.

If your current machine does what you want and is reliable, there's no reason to change. Four wheel drive is nice on these little, light tractors if you're trying to do things differently from what they were originally intended, but unless you're really trying to pull things too big for them, the two wheel drive versions do fine with a mower, tiller, or similar things.

Why nit just offer him less and buy it for a fixer upper? If it turns out it's good, sell yours. If it's not as good sell it.

Yeah, I thought of that. It would be great to have them both. The problem is tying up the cash on both machines at one time. Of the two of us my wife is more risk adverse so it would be a hard sell.

Good Move on not selling a machine you already know.

You know, I was hung up about not having 4wd as well and simply changing the tires from a turf tire (R3 i think) to a R1 (AG tread)...WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!

When I had the turfs I was getting stuck all the time (big land clearing project so muddy most of the time and no real "turf"), then I found some R1s at a junk yard for $300.. a little smaller in size, but threw them on anyways... my 2wd tractor is like a WWII tank...I put her in the granny gear and she creeps through it all. I did manage to get her stuck recently, but that was 6 inches of "perfect mud"--it was like quick sand! Had to use the FEL as an arm to pull myself and dig out of that one, but five mins later...I was out. I don't think 4wd would have helped in that situation. Not a bad ratio...one time in a year, using the tractor in all weather conditions.

Also I have read its not good to have 4wd when using the FEL..is this true? Anyway, I'm over my "need" for a 4wd since the tire swap fixed all what I longed for...i.e. not getting stuck everywhere!
