WOW: R&R clutch on a 5603 cost $4300

Sadly that's probably correct, especially when you add it the transportation cost. Even the small things add up these days, I would guess there’s probably $200 worth of new hydraulic oil and filters.

It's hard to guess what a service part may cost anymore and sometimes they don't make any sense. A few weeks ago I bought a tailgate cylinder kit for our 467 baler and it was $120.00 (for a few O-rings), then last week I bought two idler roller bearings and seals and all four were only $92.00.

Without knowing any more than I do about a 5603, I'll say
1. One would expect a power reverser equipped tractor would have two wet clutch packs, one for F and one for R and no dry traction clutch.
2. It's not hard to tie up 2 grand or more in OEM clutch parts, doesn't matter if you are overhauling a couple wet clutches, or a two stage dry clutch.
3. If this tractor had wet clutches that failed, somebody better look into why that happened @3700 hrs. Regulated circuit pressure/flow?
4. If it has a dry clutch that failed, 3700 hours isn't too bad for that clutch life.

TxJim, the first dry clutch you pictured is only the pto clutch. The second wet clutch pictured is the clutch for power reverser. Normally I wouldn' expect to replace the entire assembly, normally can replace disks, seals and reassemble unless the drum is damaged. Impossible to know what happened without seeing old parts. Not sure if you mentioned a cab, but it would need to be removed to repair reverser, so that makes the job very labor intensive. Do you know how much of repair was labor vs. parts?

Thanks for correction on pto clutch as 1st place in PC I located clutch it just stated clutch not pto clutch. I was aware 2nd photo was reverser. I'm having difficulty locating a traction clutch in PC. I was told by service manager that the hub on traction clutch stripped out. SM stated labor was 17 hrs to R&R clutch with additional 3 hrs to R&R loader. Tractor has cab,MFWD & loader. I will have more information when tractor is delivered as replaced used parts are to be sent with tractor.
