Being a first time tractor buyer,I've been looking into the 35 to 40 Hp range, and now that the new year has begun it seems as though the prices have gone up!?!? Is there a wrong or right time to buy? I was looking at Kubota, Newholland, and Bobcat,( being the dealers closest to me) and they have all gone up. So I searched the Kioti some and found a dk40se HST for 19900, I don't want to jump into something just for fear of prices going up even more than they have. So some suggestions would be some help.......thanks

Personally, I've never seen a really good time or really bad time to buy. Sometimes you can get a 0% financing deal if stuff isn't moving. That's worth some money right there.

Some dealers will work with you on machines that are laying around. Others may have better trade in values depending on their demographics for used machines.

After all of the shopping I've done, I really haven't found a killer deal at one dealer over another. They have to keep the lights on too.

As far as prices going up...Inflation takes care of that. Although, I've found that the prices generally don't jump by absurd amounts unless the new model is vastly superior to the previous model.

Get a number in your head, then go try to get as close to that as you can digest.

Good Luck.

Well the Bobcat jumped almost 3k, the Kubota about 2k, the killer is these are the "exact" same tractors I looked at in December. So I don't know if I have sucker written on my forehead, or if these jumps are true to the spring time inflated prices I've heard of.

I know kubota has reduced 0% financing from 60 months down to 48 for most units aside from obsolete models.

Maybe you should consider buying used. Most of the time you can find a used one with low hours that someone is selling based on what they payed for it, not what the new market is dictating.

A Kioti DK40se HST with loader for under $20K seems a good price. I got mine three and a half years ago for a couple thousand less but I doubt you'll find anywhere near as much tractor for less money these days. Great tractor and outstanding loader.

They go up about this time every year. Fortunately my dealer bases his price on what he paid, so if he bought it before the price boost, you pay less than for one he has to order.

I am in agreement with Shane, we bought two tractors last year, one new and one used. I couldn't find a good used M8540 in the short time period we had.

tractor companies do not swing prices around like that. Somthing is up. Yes, financing changes, cash discounts change, etc.. but your talking 7-800 at the very most.

It's inflation, everything is going up in price. America has printed trillions of dollars to buy our own debt, the dollar is worth less, you're not going to see prices drop any time soon. Even USA made products will go up in price because of raw material costs, transportation costs.

Buy now or buy used.

everything went up the 1st of the year.when i bought my tractor i wasnt getting the fel at 1st.then i talked to the salesmen an he said everything was going up the 1st of the year.so i went ahead an put the fel on it.i dont know how much your wanting to spend.but i can tell you this.you can get a MX 5100 HST 4x4 with fel for $24,000 or a tad more.an thats just a hair higher than your 40hp price.

I have looked at used from private parties, and my thought on that was for the price they were asking, maybe new with a warranty was better? maybe I'm wrong, but that's why I'm here, trying to learn. Now I know paying 2-4k more for the same tractor is overkill thanks to your help. I will look at the mx model kubota and ask the dealer his price on these, thanks again.

I tend to agree with this. The upward pressure on prices seems pretty constant. Also need to consider demand for all types of equipment will rise globally as the global economy improves, regardless of conditions here at home.

I agree with bigbull338. Also I found that in the late fall (November and December) the manufacturers start making deals on left over tractors and the special financing gets a little better.

You are right, it seems like they had better offers then, I got an offer from bobcat for the ct335sst for 20800 with loaded tires and fel. The Kioti price was a cash price and for a finance price it is 21,200, I did want the hst but bobcat is a closer dealer, Kubota finance price is out of my range.

I agree too. I think if I was going to make a big purchase now, and I had the money, I'd put the $ into silver and get the longest reasonable loan I could, and pay it back with cheap dollars in the future.

Tractor Whisperer,
If you buy used, the price may well include implements at a fraction of replacement cost. A used tractor with lowish hours, that has not been abused, is almost good as new. Any warranty type problems (from factory) will likely have already been addressed. Lots of things to balance in the decision making.

Having a well versed tractoristi along when you go to look at a unit is invaluable, so if you don't know one now, get to recruiting one. This list is a good place to make such connections. Or find an independent wrench to take with you for an inspection, once you have found what looks good to you.

If buying new, go to a dealer offering 0% financing and offer a cash deal for a healthy discount. If the dealer doesn't have to carry the interest for a year or three, the dealer will be saving a bunch of $$, and should have lots of wiggle room on the price.

my $00.02,
Dennis

The best time to buy a tractor was right before you needed it. The second best time is now....

I would not say thats the case at all. There is no such thing as left over in our business. 4th quarter tends to be the weakest programs during a strong year because sales goals have been meet, if sales have been poor then they can get cranked up to meet those projections... but its all dependent on the prior months. There is usually little pressure Jan-Feb to offer your best. Spring is when the bulk of sales happen and the most important time to be on your game.
