WTB: drawbar

Brett, I believe that Jimbo has answered your question. What he describes is a better way to use the 3 point for lifting and towing....and is another reason why a box blade is so handy. It still is not as good for towing as the tow bar mounted to the frame of the tractor, mostly because it is hard to keep the tow point low enough to keep the load from trying to push the tractor when stopping or turning. But it sure beats a tow bar mounted between the 3pt arms for safety - if not for convenience.

I made this out of a car receiver hitch. (See picture) I had some plates welded to it and flared out a little and a 7/8 inch hole drilled for my hitch pin. It slides right on to my fixed drawbar at the bottom of the tractor. I will probably rotate the hitch around so it is even lower after readiing that article.

3pt drawbar fun

Once I had a fun time with a 3pt mounted hitch. Rented one of those concrete dump trailers that hold a yard of concrete. I had the bright idea of unhooking the loaded trailer from the truck and hooking it up to the tractor so it would go right where I wanted it with less shoveling concrete. Those trailers dump with a jack that tilts the box back. Another bright idea was to use the 3pt to tilt it. Needless to say it went overcenter and the 3pt went to the top and wouldn't come down. I ended up shoveling anyway.
