Stopped by my JD dealer over the weekend to pick up a couple of items and found out why the "X" series loaders have those holes at the top of the vertical part of the frame: it's for attaching to the shipping pallet. Everybody else probably already knew this, but I didn't.

Also saw this super cool 7xxx series farm tractor there. Has a jump seat in the cab and everything. Can't imagine how neat it would be to drive something like that.

Then there was the neat boom mower on the 5603. Man, I could spend hours wandering around that place.

Yeah, that was discovered a few years ago-but it never hurts to bring it up again:D

That's OK for that hole, but what about the one with the plastic insert ?

Look at the second picture...it's just a spacer to keep the paint job off the pallet.

OK, the plastic insert is a spacer to hold the metal frame off the pallet so it won't get dirt, sand, water in there and cause it to rust before getting to the end user.

(I'm guessing....)

The 200 series loaders only have one hole, and it's got a raised rim around it that acts as the spacer.

Dang it, Kenny, you're FAST. Beat me to it....

Thanks Runner. I had really never noticed the hole until a neighbor asked me about it. That was about two weeks ago. Now I have an answer for him.:)

Yeah, those Deere dealerships are dangerous places to visit. All sorts of fun stuff to play with!

isn't it also there to access the grease fitting with a grease gun?

My little boy has a John Deere movie that has a 7xxx series tractor in action. It was hauling two round bales on the front with no rear ballast. JC

Thanks, I never knew what the holes were for but thought they would make a great attachment point for a hillbilly canopy set up :)
