No clues following my initial post about the spring failing three times...I installed a new one and then shone a trouble light under the mower with the deck lowered and the engine running.....the belt appears to run smoothly through all of the pulleys, but the tension spring is vibrating quite quickly, which leads be to think that the drive belt should be replaced?...maybe it is not as smooth as it appears...there is no visible movement in the tension arm, just in the spring....any thoughts?

You can add to your original post, just by replying to it. ;)

You might be on the right track... and hopefully a new belt (if the vibrating spring is troubling you) will solve the issue.

Thanks, beenthere....three broken tension springs in as any weeks suggests to me that the induced vibration is a contributing factor....it must be related to the belt, but is hard to see...I will remove it, check for problems and replace it....thanks for your thoughts and advice....
